Courteney Cox takes beach vacation with 'Cougar Town' co-star

Courteney Cox's joint vacation with her daughter and Josh Hopkins has sparked romance rumors.

It seemed like the perfect family vacation: Man, woman and child all happily frolicking on the beach, under the hot Caribbean sun.

Except the attractive guy splashing around with Courteney Cox and her 6-year-old daughter, Coco, on Tuesday wasn't husband-father David Arquette.

It was Josh Hopkins, Cox's on-screen "Cougar Town" lover.

But this was no secret romantic getaway, according to the actress' rep.

"The relationship is strictly platonic and they are away with a group of friends on vacation," Cox's publicist told People.com.

Arquette, who was recently affectionate in public with his estranged wife, is in Chile, according to his Twitter feed.

But if by some chance Cox, 46, and Hopkins, 40, aren't really just "Friends," the stars already have one important supporter: the actor's dad.

Larry Hopkins, a former congressman, told RadarOnline.com that he would "approve" of a romance between Cox and his son.

"I know he likes her and is very fond of her. He's said she's a very nice person," the elder Hopkins said. "If he approves of her, then I approve of her."

Cox has also been linked to one of her other "Cougar Town" co-stars, Brian Van Holt, but she ? and Arquette ? denied any romance.

"[Van Holt] is a really good friend of mine, so I don't care," Cox said in Harper's Bazaar's April issue, dismissing the rumors.

Arquette admitted to Oprah Winfrey last month that "tabloid stories coming out about her and someone on her show having an affair" contributed to his downward spiral, but added that he found out they were "not true at all."

Cox told "Extra" last week that she is "so proud" of the progress Arquette has made since getting sober in January.

"Our relationship is the best it's probably been in a long time. Our communication and the way we are, just learning about each other in a different way, it's smart," she said. "It's weird to be at this age and to look at ourselves, but it's hard and it's important and I'm glad we are, so ... I love him."
